PEMBA – July 5, 2026: The Zanzibar Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (ZGFCCM), operating under the Office of the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, has successfully concluded a democratic election to select new members representing Civil Society Organizations (NGOs) as well as Key and Vulnerable Populations (KAPs).
"The vote-counting exercise held at the Office of the Second Vice President in Pemba is a clear demonstration of our commitment to ensuring equitable representation. The voices of NGOs and Key Affected Populations (KAPs) from Pemba are vital pillars in ensuring that Global Fund interventions are distributed fairly, transparently, and effectively to completely eradicate malaria, HIV/TB from our islands."
Speaking after the conclusion of the process, Dr. Abdullah S., the Executive Secretary of ZGFCCM, commended the democratic maturity and great composure demonstrated by all participants from Pemba, emphasizing that the newly elected members now bear the responsibility of serving as a vital link between grassroots citizens and the central health coordination body.
The newly elected members have expressed their gratitude to ZGFCCM and the Office of the Second Vice President for creating an enabling environment and conducting the process with a high degree of independence and transparency. They have pledged to work closely with their respective communities to present substantive proposals that will drive progress and positive change in the health sector on Pemba Island.
